Addressing a press conference Sarma said, “There will be a complete reopening of schools and regular classes will take place with students and teachers wearing face masks and maintaining social distance.”
Sarma further said that a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be announced by Assam Education Department within the next few days.
Though Assam government had allowed the resumption of offline classes from Class 7 and above earlier, the lower classes had not started in schools.
Further, COVID-19 protocols such as attending classes on alternative days will be eliminated and classes on daily basis with full attendance will be conducted from January 1.
The decision to resume normal classes has been taken as the COVID-19 situation in the state is under control at the moment, Sarma said.
Currently, the staggered classes initiated by the Assam government will be removed. “The cases of COVID-19 has lessened. If you see the Kamrup (Metro) cases, only 20-25 cases are being registered per day. As such, we have decided to resume normal classes unless a second hit arrives,” added Sarma.
